This IDOT project takes place within Will County in the Villages of Peotone, Monee, and University Park. The repairs to the Peotone Weigh Stations include Class A and Class B patching of the bare concrete pavement ramps. The work at the structures carrying I-57 over an abandoned railroad (12.8 miles South of US 30) includes sealing the bridge decks. The proposed improvement consists of Standard Overlay, resurfacing, rest area improvements, weigh station repairs, and bridge deck sealing. The work at the Prairie View Rest Areas includes resurfacing of the parking lots, upgrading the ADA Ramps, along with other miscellaneous repairs.
INTERRA is providing various Quality Assurance services for soil, concrete, and hot mix asphalt (HMA) for the project. INTERRA is performing testing and inspection services both in the field and at the plant. This work includes Longitudinal Joint Sealant (LJS) tack coat testing and 100,000 tons of PFP on Stone-Matrix-Asphalt surface and binder mixes on the mainline. The work also includes QCP testing on all N70 mixes and 2023 QC/QA specifications which are applicable to the shoulder mixes. INTERRA is providing the lead technician for the project who is in charge of all random sampling for field samples and cores.
At the direction of our technician, HMA samples (based on random tonnages determined by QA per the PFP/QCP requirements) were obtained by the QC for each sublot and witnessed by INTERRA. Samples were collected, labeled, and tagged per the PFP/QCP procedures and transported to INTERRA’s Bolingbrook laboratory for Gmm, Gmb, Air Voids, and asphalt content determination. Asphalt content was determined using an auto extractor. Results were reported to the Prime consultant’s Material Coordinator and submitted electronically to IDOT’s pay factor (for PWL determination) and uploaded onto the QMP package portal. The results included field VMA, air voids, and dust/AC ratio and each density interval for density to determine payment for each lot. Coring at each random location was witnessed by QA and the cores were collected and transported to the INTERRA laboratory for density and thickness determination.
