This Illinois Tollway patching opportunity included five projects under contract RR-17-4314. Caltex is a hybrid mix of calcium aluminate cement-latex modified (CAL) additives combining the benefits of these two components to produce a quick-setting durable concrete mixture for routine overnight maintenance patching. INTERRA performed inspections, concrete field testing, and ensured compliance to numerous contract specifications. Strength cylinders were cast and transported to the INTERRA laboratory within one hour of casting. Cylinders were broken at three and six hours of casting. The final results were used for contract compliance and the opening of concrete patches for morning rush. Responsibilities involved testing the strength, slump, air, cylinders, and temperature. INTERRA Quality Assurance (QA) Testing on Latex Concrete Overlay. INTERRA provides typical QA Field Testing (Air, slump, temperature, and strength) versus the contractor’s control tests. In addition, INTERRA monitors rates of water and latex usage compared to approved mix design. Per contract specifications, INTERRA inspectors will perform yield checks and if necessary, recommend adjustments to gate settings.
