This Chicago Public School project involved testing and inspection of soils, concrete, masonry, structural steel, fireproofing, and monitoring of the roof installation. For soils, INTERRA monitored conditions during the excavations for the foundations to verify bearing pressure. INTERRA performed soil compaction inspection and testing and observed and documented the contractor’s testing of drainage systems. In addition, INTERRA provided observation the infiltration and exfiltration or low-pressure air test on these systems. Other services included observation of concrete placement for foundations and floor slabs. Moisture and compressive strength testing and inspection for concrete were performed. For masonry, INTERRA cast masonry mortar samples and samples of grout, ensuring both met with compressive strength requirements. Other testing and inspections were completed on brick samples. For structural steel, INTERRA inspected and tested welds and tested bolted connections as well as the shear studs. INTERRA verified the reinforcing steel for grade, size, length, and number of bars, and the overall configuration. With fireproofing, the thickness and density of fireproof material were verified and bond strength testing was performed. INTERRA inspected elastometric sheet waterproofing and the membrane waterproofing for contract compliance.
